In short address, PM Modi thanks media for coverage of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
New Delhi : In his first major interaction with journalists since taking charge as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on Saturday thanked the media for its coverage of his pet Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. In the rather short address as part of a Dipawali Milan at the BJP headquarters in the national capital, he said the coverage of the movement was a “great service to the nation”.
Senior minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajnath Singh were present on the dais with the PM along with party president Amit Shah.
Modi said some articles on the Abhiyan had even awakened state government to act of cleanliness. “Aapne apni kalam ko jhadu mein convert kar diya hai (You have changed your pens into brooms),” he told the gathering of senior editors and reporters covering the BJP. He said the coverage had shown how media organisations too were doing their national duty.
The PM said he wanted to make “judicious use” of his time to interact with the media more. He later mingled with the invitees.
