Some in BJP feel bypoll may give chance to form govt
New Delhi : A section of BJP leaders believes the bypolls announced by the Election Commission for three constituencies in the capital may not be deferred and could give the party fresh chance to take power.
Till now, a section of BJP leaders used to believe that bypolls in the three seats — Tuglaqabad, Mehrauli and Krishna Nagar — could be annulled if the Assembly is dissolved as that would mean announcement of fresh elections in the capital eventually.
But that mood has now changed. “Despite the party’s victory in Haryana and Maharashtra, the central BJP leadership is still open to the idea of forming the government,” a source said.
One leader indicated Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay could contest from one of the seats.
“There has been little effort by the central leadership to know what should be done in Delhi as most of them were busy with assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra. But now that polls in those states are over, a decision is likely soon,” the leader said.
The Election Commission on Saturday announced bypolls for three Delhi constituencies, which had fallen vacant after the MLAs were elected to Parliament in the 2014 general elections.
The constituencies will go to polls on November 25, the poll panel said.
Sitting MLAs from these constituencies — Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ramesh Bidhuri and Harsh Vardhan — were elected to the Lok Sabha.
