Narendra Modi campaign launch on Nov 22 with Kishtwar rally
New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch his election campaign in poll-bound J&K on November 22, when he will address a rally in Kishtwar, Jammu, followed by one in Udampur on November 28.
BJP sources said Modi, who will be the party’s face during campaigning in the state, will also address rallies in Poonch, Srinagar and Jammu, for which the dates will be announced later. Modi is expected to address at least eight rallies in the state, where the saffron party looks to form its first government.
“The party’s slogans will be ‘Ab badale Jammu and Kashmir ki haalat’ (Let’s change the condition of J&K) and ‘Chalo Chale Modi ji ke saath’,” said Shrikant Sharma, national secretary of the BJP.
He said other senior leaders, including Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley and party chief Amit Shah will also campaign. “The BJP’s battle is for complete governance and against dynasty politics and corruption,” Sharma said.
BJP sources said the party’s target in J&K is to become the single largest party in the 87-member Assembly. “Our aim is to become the single largest party by winning maximum seats in the Jammu region, where the party started working two years ago, and by winning four or five seats in the Valley,” said a leader involved with the campaign.
In the state, the party will also bank on Modi’s image as a “brand for good governance and development”.
Modi, who will return from Australia on November 20, will head for poll-bound Jharkhand the next day, where he will address rallies on November 21 and 25. In Jharkhand, too, the party is aiming for a clear majority.
