Hours before Narendra Modi’s arrival at Srinagar, Pakistan resorts to unprovoked firing

Jammu : Barely a few hours before the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for spending Diwali with people hit by recent floods in the Valley, Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing on some BSF posts along the international border in Jammu and Samba districts.

Confirming fresh incidents of ceasefire violation by Paksitan, official sources said that the small arms fire from across the border started on forward BSF positions in Samba around 11.20 am, but it stopped after five minutes. Later, it re-started 11.40 am again.

At Arnia, the Pakistani Rangers resumed firing around 12 noon. It was continuing at intermittent intervals with BSF retaliating.

Sources said that the small arms fire by Pakistan was limited to only BSF posts and civilian areas were unaffected by it.

Significantly, while the international border from Kathua to Pargwal near Akhnoor has been relatively calm with no incident of mortar shelling by Pakistani Rangers on civilian areas for the last some days, they continue to fire a few shots on forward BSF posts here and there after frequent intervals so as to ensure uncertain situation along the border. On Wednesday also, they had fired a few brusts on BSF posts  in Ramgarh Arnia sectors at intermittent intervals between 10.30 am to 10.45 am.

These stray incidents of ceasefire violation by Pakistan were making people continue staying at the camps instead of returning to their native places near the border.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ahead of his arrival at Srinagar in the afternoon, visited Siachen. He is expected to be in Srinagar in the afternoon where he will spend Diwali meeting people hit by recent flood furry in the Valley.
