Is impromptu series against Sri Lanka blessing in disguise for 'Men in Blue'?
New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hardly wasted any time to finalise a series against Sri Lanka, after the West Indian players decided to call off their tour against India mid-way of the ODI series.
Somewhere or the other, it's a blessing in disguise for Team India, who otherwise had to play the remaining ODI, one-off Twenty20 and three match Test series against the Caribbean team, which wouldn't have helped India in their preparations for the forthcoming World Cup, scheduled to take place in February next year.
Now according to the Indian board, Sri Lankan team will play five-match ODI series with India between 1st to 15 November.
Sri Lanka are certainly tough competitors in the limited overs cricket, which will help MS Dhoni & Co to work on their flaws before the team leaves for Australia to play the last and most testing tour of the year.
The series with Sri Lanka will also give fringe players a golden opportunity to prove that they are also in contention for the most coveted ICC event.
In fact, Indian skipper will also get a chance to test few more permutations and combinations, which would help the skipper and selectors to make a mind set before selecting the final squad for the World Cup, scheduled to take place in Australia and New Zealand.
So to play a five match series against Sri Lanka can turn out to be a good decision by the BCCI, just ahead of the Australian tour.
