Azam’s plan for Mulayam’s birthday: 75-foot cake, musical night and imported buggy

Lucknow : A towering “75-foot cake” and a horse-drawn buggy being imported from London — that is how Cabinet minister Azam Khan will usher in Mulayam Singh Yadav’s 75th birthday on November 22.

During the two-day-long event (November 21 and 22), that Khan will personally oversee, several artistes will entertain visitors, chief among whom will be Mulayam and his son, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, on the Jauhar University campus.

An invitation has also been sent to Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi, who, during his additional charge of Uttar Pradesh, had cleared the Bill for minority status to Jauhar University which had been pending for a long time.

While Khan himself did not respond to calls from this correspondent, his Public Relation Officer Fasahat Khan Shanu confirmed that both Mulayam and Akhilesh have given their consent for the two-day programme in Rampur.

Shanu also confirmed about the soon-to-arrive horse-driven carriage from London that both Mulayam and Akhilesh will take a tour in from CRPF camp to Jauhar University.

“The order has been placed and the victorian-style horse carriage from London will soon arrive,” he said. As Mulayam will ride on the carriage, rows of school children standing on either sides of the road will accompany him until the buggy stops at Jauhar University.

November 21, a day before the birthday, will be a musical night with Sufi singer Hansraj Hans and Sabri Brothers performing before the audience that will gather at the university campus. The state government’s cultural department, too, has been roped in as it enacts a dance programme on Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi.

After staying the night over at the guest house, Mulayam will lay the foundation stone of the medical college on the University campus. Shanu claimed that several other schemes and projects for the city will also be announced by the chief minister. The programme will conclude with a public meeting at the campus.
